Teacher to student is the traditional way to learn yoga, it allows the student to ask questions and to be sure of no injury.

It's ideal if you want to feel the benefits quickly or if you're trying yoga for the first time, but are put off by the thought of a big class, or simply don't have the time to get there.

It is also excellent for intermediate level students as a way of advancing their practice. It is also perfect if you have a specific issue or injury, whereby I can create a practice to suit you.

Each private yoga lesson will be designed for what's going on in your body, mind and life in general. Whilst I have practiced many different styles, including Ashtanga, Sivananda and Jivamukti I primarily draw on the teachings of Hatha yoga.

Hatha (ha meaning sun, tha meaning moon) represents opposing energies: hot & cold; male & female; positive & negative.

Hatha yoga attempts to balance mind and body via:

1. Physical exercises (asanas)
2. Controlled breathing (pranayama)
3. Calming the mind through relaxation and meditation.

Asanas work on every part of the body, stretching and toning muscles, joints and ligaments, maintaining flexibility. It also works internally, toning and stimulating organs, glands and nerves. This releases physical and mental tension, resulting in increased energy.

Pranayama are breathing exercises which revitalise the body and calm the mind, resulting in increased mental clarity and concentration.

Relaxation/meditation is the silencing of the body, mind and intellect. This allows us to reach deep within ourselves finding true peace and happiness, away from the distraction of modern life.

My students can take what they want and need from the yoga practice - so whether it's a sense of peace, strength, balance, stillness of mind, flexibility, deeper insights of self or improved co-ordination it's your choice. The practice will, over time, develop into your own style to fit these needs.

Classes are held in the comfort of your own home or at my studio in Fulham.
